Nutritional amblyopia (deficiency amblyopia) is form of visual impairment associated with malnutrition. Affected individuals commonly develop amblyopia and a gradual impairment of central vision. Impaired vision results from central scotoma or paracentral scotoma and the temporal portions of the optic discs are pale. A similar condition occurs in cigarette smokers.
