A cystic schwannoma is a variant of the schwannoma characterized by the presence of cystic areas within the tumor. The cystic regions usually result from the coalescence of mucinous or microcystic parts of the Antoni type B tissue in a schwannoma. The cysts can also follow necrosis within the neoplasm because of an impaired circulation or they may be a sequel to hemorrhage in which the blood became absorbed.
