Nanism (dwarfism, microplasia, nanosomia) is the state of being unusually small short with an underdeveloped body. Several different types of dwarfism are recognized: bird-headed dwarfism, camptomelic dwarfism [dwarfism - camptomelic], deprivation dwarfism [dwarfism - deprivation], hypophysial dwarfism [dwarfism - hypophysial], Laron dwarfism type I, renal dwarfism [dwarfism - renal], Robinow dwarfism, Silver-Russell dwarfism, symptomatic dwarfism [dwarfism - symptomatic], and Walt Disney dwarfism [dwarfism - Walt Disney]. Ellis-van Creveld syndrome is a type of dwarfism with polydactyly.
