Hypercalcemia - cancer related
Overview

Contributor: Gordon K. Klintworth
Cancer-related hypercalcemia is a specific type of hypercalcemia that occurs in individuals with certain types of  carcinoma,  such as squamous cell carcinoma [carcinoma - squamous cell], in the absence of bone metastases. The main humoral factor responsible for cancer-related hypercalcemia is parathyroid related protein produced by normal keratinocytes. It needs to be differentiated from hypercalcemia that follows metastatic carcinoma [carcinoma - metastatic] to bone.
