The conventional chondrosarcoma (classic chondrosarcoma) is a malignant mesenchymal neoplasm characterized by cartilaginous differentiation. Other types of chondrosarcoma are the dedifferentiated chondrosarcoma [chondrosarcoma - dedifferentiated], clear cell chondrosarcoma [chondrosarcoma - clear cell], mesenchymal chondrosarcoma and malignant chondroblastoma. Chondrosarcoma may arise from a benign pre-existing lesion in cartilage such as an enchondroma of Ollier syndrome.
