The sunflower cataract is a specific type of cataract. It occurs in Wilson disease and results from the deposition of circulating copper in the anterior and posterior lens capsule of both eyes. When viewed by slit lamp biomicroscopy, the copper deposits within the lens capsule appear brown, red, blue, green, and yellow and resemble the petals of a sunflower, hence the term "sunflower cataract".
