Interstitial  keratitis (deep keratitis, keratitis profunda, parenchymatous keratitis) is a chronic variety of  keratitis with deposits of abnormal material in the deep corneal stroma. The cornea becomes diffusely opaque and resembles ground-glass. An important cause of this type of keratitis is congenital syphilis [syphilis - congenital].
