Rubella (German measles)  is a viral infection due to the rubella virus. Intrauterine fetal rubella may causes the congenital rubella [rubella - congenital]. Manifestations of congenital rubella include microphthalmos, congenital cataract [cataract - congenital], secondary glaucoma [glaucoma - secondary]. Rubella infection acquired in childhood or in adult life does not cause cataracts.
